A Webflow developer owns your site end to end: components, CMS collections, interactions and the forms and integrations marketing relies on. Showy demo sites are easy to build, so we screen for sites that stayed fast after launch, structure a marketer can edit without breaking, and how they work with the people who request pages.

What a good Webflow developer has done by day 90

The first quarter decides whether the site becomes something marketing can use without a ticket or something only one person dares touch. Each stage below has a signal that predicts it, and we test for that signal before you meet anyone.

Milestone 1 of 5: Audits the site and ships fixes

Weeks 1 and 2

Access, hosting, staging, the style system, CMS collections and the forms and integrations that feed the CRM. Maps what is duplicated, broken or slow, and ships the small fixes marketing has been waiting on.

On track looks like a short written audit of the site and the first fixes live, with nothing left only in their head.

How we test for it before you meet them

A review exercise in our screen: the structure of a Webflow site with real problems in it. We score what they find and the order they would fix it in.

Milestone 2 of 5: Takes over the request queue

Weeks 3 to 6

New pages, CMS updates, form changes and tracking requests move through one person, with a staging check before anything goes live.

On track looks like a predictable turnaround on page and form requests, and fewer last-minute changes to live pages.

How we test for it before you meet them

We ask how they handled requests at their last job: who asked, how they were ordered and how changes went live. A former manager or client confirms it.

Milestone 3 of 5: A component system marketers can use

Weeks 7 to 10

Sections that keep coming back, heroes, proof bars, pricing tables and forms, built once as components with a clean class and variable system, so marketers assemble pages on their own.

On track looks like marketers publishing new pages from components without asking for help or breaking the layout.

How we test for it before you meet them

We look at a Webflow project they built and ask who edited it after launch, and what broke when they did.

Milestone 4 of 5: Speed and integrations under control

Weeks 11 to 13

Image handling, interactions and scripts reviewed against page speed, redirects and metadata set up properly, and forms and tracking tested end to end into the CRM and analytics.

On track looks like faster key pages and leads reaching the CRM with source data intact.

How we test for it before you meet them

A reference call about a site they looked after for a year or more: speed, uptime and what happened when something broke.

Milestone 5 of 5: The site as a platform

After day 90

Strong developers start shaping the site roadmap: a tidier style system, CMS structures that scale, a plan for the next redesign and a view on what should and should not live in Webflow.

On track looks like a site roadmap the website manager can take to marketing leadership.

How we test for it before you meet them

We ask what they would clean up first on the last site they ran, and why. Developers who remove complexity tend to keep sites healthy.

What the seat owns

Five responsibilities. If the seat also owns the testing program and the conversion numbers, it is a CRO role with a developer’s title.

  1. The style and component system

Classes, variables and components built so the site stays consistent as pages are added.

  2. CMS collections and templates

Blog, resource, customer and landing page structures that editors can fill without touching the design.

  3. Interactions, kept proportionate

Motion that helps visitors understand a page without costing speed or breaking on mobile.

  4. Forms, integrations and tracking

Connecting forms to the CRM, analytics and tag management, and testing that data arrives intact.

  5. Speed, metadata and handover

Page speed, redirects and SEO basics, plus training so marketers can edit with confidence.

What it is not

Three neighboring seats absorb work people assume belongs here. Drawing the line wrong is how a Webflow hire ends up designing every page or building custom software.

  • Web Designer

That seat ownsPage layouts, visual hierarchy and the components the developer builds from.

Hire it instead whenthe site works but looks dated, and nobody owns how new pages should look.

  • WordPress Developer

That seat ownsBuilding and running a WordPress site: theme, plugins, speed, security and releases.

Hire it instead whenyour site runs on WordPress, or you are weighing a move between the two.

  • Front-End Developer

That seat ownsCustom front-end code beyond a visual builder: components, frameworks and performance.

Hire it instead whenthe site needs logic or scale that a visual builder cannot give you.

Three versions of the seat

The title stays the same; the work does not. Pick the one that matches how your site is made.

What a Webflow developer is paid in the US

Public US benchmarks, read October 2026. Salary.com’s Webflow band sits below its WordPress developer band. Built In has no Webflow page, so its front-end developer figures stand as a neighboring seat. Price on scope: a developer who also writes custom code and owns integrations sits toward the front-end figures, one who builds from finished designs nearer the Webflow band.

Each bar runs from the 25th to the 75th percentile, the middle half of reported pay.

Employer questions about hiring a Webflow developer

A Webflow developer builds and maintains a site in Webflow: the style and component system, CMS collections and templates, interactions, forms and the integrations that connect the site to your CRM and analytics. On a marketing site they also look after speed, redirects and metadata, and they build the components that let marketers publish pages without a developer.

Salary.com puts a Webflow developer at $80,526 to $88,841 base, with a median of $85,754 (October 2026). Its WordPress developer band is higher, at $96,516 to $113,312. Built In has no Webflow page, but its front-end developer figures show a $101,000 median base. Scope explains the spread: custom code and integrations lift the number.

Webflow suits teams that want a visual builder, fast page production and less to maintain. WordPress suits teams that need a large plugin ecosystem, custom functionality or deep control of the code. The choice should follow who edits the site and what it must connect to. We recruit developers for either, and will say on the first call which one your brief points to.

A Webflow developer for hire is usually a freelancer, an agency or an in-house hire. The first two suit a one-off build or a redesign with a fixed scope. In-house pays off when marketing ships pages every week, the site connects to your CRM and tracking, and no one else can make safe changes.

HTML, CSS and a clean class and component system, CMS structure, interactions used with restraint, and practical speed work. For a marketing site, add form and CRM integrations, analytics and tag management, and enough JavaScript to extend what the builder cannot do. Ask to see a live site that others edited after launch.

Give them a description or screenshots of a Webflow site with real problems, a messy structure, heavy interactions and an untested form, and ask what they would fix first and why. It takes under an hour and shows judgment, speed awareness and how they prioritize. Avoid long unpaid builds: they reward free time, not skill.

Ten working days from a signed brief to a shortlist of three to five calibrated developers, each with our review exercise scored and a live site checked. Interview speed decides the rest: good Webflow developers rarely run one process at a time, so a decision within a week of the first interview keeps them. Most can start two to four weeks after accepting.
